Neela Asmaan is an interconnected ecosystem of visual arts, research, science and dialogue for creators and innovators across Asia, a region rich in creative talent, yet often underrepresented in global cultural conversations.
The residency aims to function as a node in a global network of artists,
researchers, technologists, and institutions working at the intersection of
culture, climate, and innovation.
At its core, Neela Asmaan is an invitation: to step away from the noise, to follow a question, an idea, or a story wherever it may lead.
At the heart of the Residency is a belief in the power of connection. By bringing together storytellers, designers, educators, anthropologists, public intellectuals, community leaders, and cultural and climate practitioners, from diverse cultures and communities across Asia and linking them with international mentors and collaborators, the programme creates fertile ground for creative growth.
This is a place where ideas are nurtured, practices evolve, and new creative horizons come into view.
Access to world-class practitioners across film, storytelling, and the arts.

Noe Mendelle has worked across film and television for more than three decades as a director, producer, and champion of documentary storytelling. In 2004, she founded the Scottish Documentary Institute. Alongside her industry work, she serves as a Research Professor at Edinburgh College of Art, where she supervises practice-based doctoral research in documentary film.

Suchin Shrestha is a visual artist based in Nepal whose practice is rooted in an exploration of the human condition. Through works that pulse with movement, emotion, and introspection, he investigates the tensions between desire and restraint, presence and memory, inviting viewers into a deeper contemplation of what it means to feel, connect, and belong.
